Vasundhara – a science centre of excellence, held the Inaugural Ceremony to introduce a distinctive open air laboratory. The Inaugural Ceremony was to celebrate the “introduction of Science Park - Dr. Homi Bhabha Science Park” in association with Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co. Ltd.

The occasion was blessed with the presence of Mr. James Kurien, the Vice President of Godrej Locking Solutions and Systems as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ranjit Desai, the Vice President of Zilla Parishad, Sindudurg, Mrs. Ananya Hadkar, the Head of Nerur Panchayat and local dignitaries from in and around Kudal also joined the ceremony.

The event is “historic” since this is the first ever science park in territory of Sindhudurg.

Through Science Park, Vasundhara aim to communicate developments in Science & Technology among the masses and encourage creativity and spirit of enquiry and awareness among the students of the region. The science park is surrounded with variety of science working models & outdoor experiments.

This tab will b also preloaded with NCERT and CBSE text books in eBook format. The tablet will have customized SSC and CBSE board syllabus based content prepared by experts for Marathi, Semi English and English medium students from class 8 to 10. Links to the high class content prepared by reputed content companies in the form of Virtual labs and interactive experiments will be provided on the tabs, which will help in improving science concepts among the students deprived of quality education in schools and help them in developing interest in learning science and math.

The first ever Science Park in territory of Sindhudurg, Maharshtra

Dr. Madhuri Sawant, A technical and scientific Adviser to Vasundhara Science Center, Nerurpar, and Kudal of Sindhudurg District. She was an Education Adviser to Govt. of Maharashtra in the year 2014 and brought many changes in Teachers training using video conferencing techniques. She was also heading Aakash Tablet school project in IIT Bombay after returning from the USA where she was deputation as a Research Center Head from TCS. Aakash School tablet project was executed in Pandharpur and it changed the entire perspective towards effectiveness of technology based education in rural schools.

She proposed Table based learning in Vasundhara Science Center to learn high quality syllabu and concept for the students who aspire to appear for competitive exams such as Olympiad, NTSE, IITJEE and premedical exams from nearby districts to make concepts clear and improve their overall performance. Vasundhara will set up a learning center comprising of 50 tablets connected to Internet through WiFi. Each tab will be preloaded with test preps for competitive exams such as IIT-Jee, Premedical, Science and math Olympiad, NTSE etc. 

The canteen building along with Eureka Hall and Residential Building for the students during the camp now stands proudly ready to accommodate them for their scheduled programmes. Students from various schools and districts are expected to visit and also study while residing in these premises. The first phase of 7,000 sq.ft has been completed.

We are now in the process of building the residential premises and the toilets for boys and girls for the camps being held in the Centre which is estimated at Rs. 20 Lacs. In the third phase we are planning to build a second Eureka Hall, encompassing of various scientific experiments for the students, general public and teachers. And also a guest house for teachers coming for visits and teaching in the Science Centre.

We are also planning the following in the near future:
  • A science library in the memory of Shri. Khanolkar Chintamani T. (Aarti Prabhu) renowned Marathi Poet from Sindhudurg.
  • Two activity centers for the students
  • An Amphi-theatre seating around 150 people

Science Centre

All our activities were being carried out from a small rental house wherein our office & the science centre were situated. But the Nerur, Taluka - Kudal, Gram Panchayat has allotted us 4.5 acres of land on 99 years lease in November 2009, which has now put all the activities on a firm footing and also helped us to plan further programmes for the studentsWe are now constructing a new Science Centre on these 4.5 acres of land given by the Gram Panchayat Nerur. The total constructed area of this centre will be around 60,000 sq.ft, costing around Rs. 7.5 cores. We have finished the construction of the three buildings as per the project plan.
